Recovering a Lost Authenticator

7/6/20260 views

Sign In With a Backup Code

If you lose access to your authenticator app, your backup codes are the way back in. At the second-factor prompt during sign-in, choose to use a backup code and enter one of the codes you saved when you set up two-factor authentication. Each code works once.

Reset 2FA on a New Device

After you sign in with a backup code:

  1. Open Settings and select the Security tab.
  2. In the two-factor section, disable two-factor authentication (you can confirm with a backup code).
  3. Re-enable it and scan the QR code with the authenticator app on your new device. See Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication.

This rebinds 2FA to your current device and issues a fresh set of backup codes. Save them.

Locked Out Completely

If you have lost both your authenticator and your backup codes, you will not be able to clear the second-factor prompt yourself. Contact support so the team can help verify your identity and restore access.

Avoiding This Next Time

Store your backup codes in a password manager or another secure location, and regenerate them if they run low. See Using Backup Codes.
