Vectara
Vectara
Enterprise agent platform with grounded, auditable retrieval
Vectara is an enterprise agent platform for building governed, grounded AI agents across SaaS, customer-managed VPC and on-premise deployments. It supplies its own RAG stack: the Boomerang retrieval and embedding model, the Slingshot multilingual reranker, the Mockingbird generative model tuned for RAG and structured output, and the Hughes Hallucination Evaluation Model behind its Factual Consistency Score. It is model-agnostic with bring-your-own-model support for ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and natively handles complex multimodal documents spanning text, tables and images.
Primary Functions
retrieval-augmented generation
enterprise search
AI agent orchestration
hallucination detection
Features
- Boomerang retrieval and embedding model supporting hundreds of languages and dialects, powering hybrid search
- Slingshot multilingual reranker that reorders results for relevance and to avoid redundancy
- Mockingbird generative model fine-tuned for RAG and structured output, citing sources per claim
- Hughes Hallucination Evaluation Model driving always-on hallucination detection and a Factual Consistency Score
- Guardian Agents applying policy and brand controls at runtime
- Bring-your-own-model support for ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini embeddings and generation
- Native handling of multimodal, complex documents across text, tables and images
- Delivery as SaaS, customer-managed VPC or on-premise, offered as a fully hosted service in each environment
Limitations
- No free or self-serve paid tier: past the 30-day trial the entry price is $100K/year for a single SaaS deployment
- VPC and on-premise deployments start at $250K/year and $500K/year respectively, each covering one deployment
- Written uptime and support-response SLAs are limited to Enterprise-tier accounts
- Model benchmark pages are dated June 2024 (Boomerang), May 2024 (Slingshot), July 2024 (Mockingbird) and August 2024 (HHEM) and present results as chart summaries rather than score tables readable as text
- Comparative claims such as Boomerang being 'on par with OpenAI and Cohere embedding models' or Mockingbird outperforming GPT-4 are vendor-run and relative, with no figures published as text
