Translate text, speech, images and documents in 200+ languages

Google Translate is Google's translation product, available in a browser and as Android and iOS apps. Google's help centre states you can "translate text, handwriting, photos, and speech in over 200 languages with the Google Translate app", and Google's 20th-anniversary post of 28 April 2026 says Translate "works for almost 250 languages and more than 60,000 potential language pairs" and that "More than 1 billion users ask Google for translation help each month". Newer capabilities include Live translate for real-time conversation built on Gemini audio-to-audio models, an AI Practice experience for language learners, and pronunciation practice on Android.

  • Camera translation: point the camera to instantly translate text in view
  • Conversation mode for talking with someone who speaks a different language
  • Transcribe for near real-time translation of continuous speech
  • Offline translation after downloading a language pack, on Android and iOS
  • Document upload translation that preserves formatting, and whole-webpage translation by URL

Limitations

  • Pronunciation practice is limited to the Android app and is available only in the U.S. and India, in English, Spanish and Hindi
  • Offline use requires downloading each language pack in advance
  • Google's own help pages warn that image translation accuracy "depends on the clarity of the text" and that "Translation of small, unclear, or stylized text may result in lower accuracy"
  • Google's published language count is inconsistent: the help centre says "over 200 languages" while the April 2026 blog post says "almost 250 languages"
  • No pricing, plan or paid-tier information is published on Google's Translate product or help pages
